Peer Review policy

The ideal length for studies and source publications is 40,000–60,000 words, for reviews 15,000–20,000 words. An abstract of approximately 2,000 words, preferably in English, summarizing the main findings of the studies, and 3–5 keywords to help with retrieval, are required, as well as illustrations with a resolution of at least 300 dpi, to be sent in a separate image file. In addition, we ask the authors to provide their workplace, position, and academic degree.

Starting in 2025, all studies, source publications, and reviews will be subject to an anonymous peer review process – after checking the basic formal and content requirements. This means that the manuscript will be reviewed by two peer reviewers, either members of the editorial board or external historians and archivists, who will make a recommendation to the editorial board for its acceptance or rejection, and will provide objective critical comments on the articles. The text revised by the author is edited by a professional editor, who may request further modifications. Finally, the text reviewed by the reading editor is received by the author for approval, and if desired, the author can also check the submitted version.

The aim of both the proofreading and editorial process is to bring the manuscript, which is treated as confidential information until publication, to the best possible form. After publication in printed form, the text will also be readable on the open access website of the Levéltári Közlemények. We do everything we can to ensure that only accurate and verified information, texts that comply with professional ethical expectations, and authorized illustrations and tables appear in the journal.
